Verified as of August 2026. Immigration rules, biometric arrangements and health requirements change without notice. Confirm everything on canada.ca and the Australian Department of Home Affairs website before you apply or book.
Short answer. Both require a visa arranged before you travel, and both are applied for online, directly on the government system, not at a counter. For Canada you apply through an IRCC secure account, then give biometrics at the Canada visa application center in Dhaka after IRCC sends you a Biometric Instruction Letter, and there is normally no in-person interview. For Australia you lodge a Visitor visa (subclass 600) through ImmiAccount at online.immi.gov.au, and the Department of Home Affairs notifies you through ImmiAccount if a health examination is required for your case.
That last difference is the one people get wrong. A Bangladeshi applicant who assumes Canada works like the US interview process, or that Australia always requires a chest x-ray, plans the wrong trip.
Canada: the sequence from Dhaka
- Apply online through your IRCC secure account on canada.ca. Apply directly. The published advice, and ours, is not to route the application through an intermediary that adds a markup to a government fee.
- Pay the government fees online. A visitor visa fee and a separate biometrics fee apply. We do not publish figures; canada.ca does.
- Wait for the Biometric Instruction Letter. IRCC issues it after submission. It carries a deadline, commonly described as around 30 days to attend.
- Give biometrics at the Canada visa application center in Dhaka, meaning fingerprints and a photograph. Once given, Canadian biometrics remain valid for a defined multi-year period, so a later application may not need them again. Check the validity of yours before assuming you must repeat the step.
- There is normally no interview. The decision is made on your file.
- If approved, your passport is requested so the visa can be placed in it.
Practical requirements the published lists agree on: an original passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay, with at least two blank visa pages, plus evidence of funds and of your circumstances in Bangladesh.
Note on sourcing: canada.ca returned an HTTP 403 error on direct fetch for this article on 11 August 2026, so the operational steps above are carried from the results ranking for the official pages rather than from a successful direct read. Verify them on canada.ca itself.
Canada: the test the officer is applying
Here is the part that no Bangladeshi-facing page on this topic names, and it is the whole decision.
Canadian visitor visa applications are assessed under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, paragraph 179(b). In operational terms, the officer must be satisfied that the applicant will leave Canada by the end of the period authorized for their stay. Canadian immigration practitioners describe failure to satisfy s.179(b) as the most frequently cited reason for refusal of a visitor visa.
How it is assessed, as practitioners describe it: the officer weighs financial and personal ties to the applicant’s country of residence against factors pointing the other way, and considers immigration history, including previous applications and any overstay in another country. There is no single document that satisfies it and no factor that guarantees an outcome. It is a balance-of-probabilities judgment on the whole file.
Two honest points follow.
This is not a formula, and anyone selling you one is selling nothing. We are not going to publish a list of “ties documents that work”. What we will say is that your file should describe a real life in Bangladesh that continues after the trip, and that the dates, funds and purpose in it should all describe the same journey.
Never submit a document that is not truthfully yours. Misrepresentation is a separate and far more serious finding than a refusal, and it carries consequences that outlast any single application. Our guide to why visa applications from Bangladesh get refused covers the published refusal grounds across countries.
Australia: the sequence from Dhaka
Australia’s Visitor visa is subclass 600, and the route is different in shape from Canada’s.
- Lodge online through ImmiAccount at online.immi.gov.au. Bangladeshi applicants apply through the same online system as everyone else; there is no separate paper route to plan around.
- Choose the correct stream within subclass 600, since the visitor visa covers tourism, visiting family and certain business visitor activities, and the evidence differs.
- Provide the supporting evidence the application asks for, including your passport, your circumstances in Bangladesh, and funds for the visit.
- Watch ImmiAccount. The Department of Home Affairs communicates through it, including any request for biometrics or a health examination, and including the decision itself.
- Attend a health examination if you are asked to. In Bangladesh, IOM operates as the panel provider for Australian visa medical examinations, publishing an “Australia: All Types of Visa Applicants” service page for Dhaka.
Australian visas are recorded electronically rather than as a sticker in the passport, so do not expect a label to prove you hold one. Check your grant notice and the details recorded against your passport number.
Australia: when the health examination actually applies
This is where the Bangladeshi guides diverge most from the published rule, in both directions. Some omit the health requirement entirely. Others present a chest x-ray as compulsory for every applicant. Neither is right.
The published position ties the requirement to your circumstances:
- You generally do not need a health examination if you are from a lower-risk country and under 75 years of age.
- If you are from a higher-risk country and intend to stay six months or more, a medical examination report and a chest x-ray (for applicants aged 11 or over) are required.
- If you are 75 or older and applying for a subclass 600 Visitor visa, a medical examination is required.
- The Department tells you. Home Affairs notifies you through ImmiAccount whether a health examination is required for your specific application.
The practical instruction for a Bangladeshi applicant is therefore simple, and it saves money: do not book a medical before you are asked to. If you are taking a normal short holiday and you are under 75, the requirement may not apply to you at all. When it does apply, use the panel provider named in your request, not a clinic someone recommends.
A medical examination fee applies where the examination is required, published by the panel provider. We do not quote figures.
The four tests, side by side
Bangladeshi travelers usually attempt these four destinations in some order, and each country tests a different thing. This is the comparison the SERP does not assemble.
| Destination | The published test | Where it lives | Interview? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canada | The officer must be satisfied you will leave Canada by the end of the authorized stay | Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, s.179(b) | Normally no |
| United States | A statutory presumption that you intend to immigrate, which you must overcome | Immigration and Nationality Act, section 214(b) | Yes, in Dhaka |
| United Kingdom | You must satisfy the decision maker you are a genuine visitor, including that you will leave and will not make the UK your main home | Immigration Rules, Appendix V, V 4.2 | No, biometrics only |
| Australia | A Visitor visa (subclass 600) assessed on your stated purpose and circumstances, with health requirements applied by circumstance | Migration regulations, administered through ImmiAccount | No |
The pattern is worth stating plainly: three of the four are decided on paper by an officer you will never meet. Only the US puts you in a room. If your instinct is that the interview is the hard part, that instinct is only correct for one of these four. For the US case specifically, see the US visa interview in Dhaka, which also covers the visa bond and designated-airport rules now attaching to Bangladeshi B1/B2 applicants. For the UK, see the UK visit visa from Bangladesh. For Europe, the Schengen application from Bangladesh turns first on which member state may even examine your file.
Before you book anything
Do not buy non-refundable tickets before a decision. For both countries the application asks about your intended travel, not about tickets you have already purchased.
Apply directly on the government system. IRCC’s account on canada.ca, ImmiAccount for Australia. Both governments run the whole process online, which means there is nothing an intermediary can do faster, and paying a markup on a government fee buys you nothing.
Diarize the deadlines you are given, not the ones you read online. The Biometric Instruction Letter’s window and any ImmiAccount request both carry their own dates, and missing one is a self-inflicted refusal.
Check your passport before you start. Six months of validity beyond your stay, and blank pages. If yours is short, that is the first task, not the last.
If you are earlier in the journey than this, the visa-free and visa-on-arrival destinations for a Bangladeshi passport is a more realistic starting point than any of these four, and the travel record you build there is itself relevant to the tests above.
FAQ
Do Bangladeshi citizens need a visa to visit Canada?
Yes. A Bangladeshi passport holder needs a visitor visa, also called a temporary resident visa, applied for online through an IRCC secure account before travel. Biometrics are given at the Canada visa application center in Dhaka after IRCC issues a Biometric Instruction Letter, and there is normally no in-person interview.
What is IRPR 179(b) and why does it matter?
It is the provision under which a Canadian officer must be satisfied that a visitor visa applicant will leave Canada by the end of the period authorized for their stay. Canadian immigration practitioners describe it as the most frequently cited ground for visitor visa refusal. The officer weighs ties and circumstances on the whole file rather than looking for one document.
Do I need a medical test for an Australian visitor visa from Bangladesh?
Not automatically. The published rule ties it to circumstances: a medical examination report and chest x-ray for applicants aged 11 or over who are from a higher-risk country and intend to stay six months or more, and a medical examination for applicants aged 75 or over. The Department of Home Affairs notifies you through ImmiAccount if an examination is required for your application. Do not book a medical before you are asked. IOM operates as a panel provider in Bangladesh.
Is there an interview for a Canadian or Australian visitor visa?
Normally no, for either. Both are decided on the documents you submit online. Among the four destinations Bangladeshi travelers most commonly apply to, only the United States requires an in-person interview as standard.
How long does a Canada or Australia visitor visa take from Bangladesh?
This guide does not publish a figure, and any page that promises one is guessing. Both governments publish current processing information on their own sites, and those figures are estimates rather than commitments. Apply well ahead of any planned travel and do not buy non-refundable tickets before a decision.
Checked August 2026. Sources named inline: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (canada.ca) for the online application through an IRCC secure account, the Biometric Instruction Letter and its attendance window, biometrics at the Canada visa application center in Dhaka, the absence of a routine interview, and passport validity and blank-page requirements. Note that canada.ca returned HTTP 403 on direct fetch on 11 August 2026, so those operational details are carried from the results ranking for the official pages rather than from a successful direct read, and this is stated rather than hidden. The Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, paragraph 179(b), is cited as the legal test; the description of how officers weigh ties, immigration history and overstay, and the statement that s.179(b) is the most frequently cited refusal ground, come from Canadian immigration practitioners and are attributed as such. For Australia: the Department of Home Affairs and ImmiAccount (online.immi.gov.au) for lodgement of the Visitor visa subclass 600 and for notification of health examination requirements through ImmiAccount; published health-requirement guidance for the six-month and higher-risk-country condition, the chest x-ray from age 11, and the medical examination for applicants aged 75 and over; and IOM Bangladesh for its published “Australia: All Types of Visa Applicants” panel examination service in Dhaka. No fee is quoted in any currency and no processing time is promised. Review interval: 90 days. This is documented process, not immigration advice, and no one can promise an application will be approved.
