“Do I need this for a tourist visa, or only for jobs?”
For a tourist visa, almost never. The confusion is real and it has a cause, and once you see the cause the question answers itself.
One document, three unrelated purposes
A police clearance certificate is a statement from a police authority about whether you have a recorded criminal history. That is all it is.
Three different kinds of organization ask for one, and they are asking for entirely different reasons:
An employer or a labor recruitment process, particularly for overseas employment. This is the most common reason a Bangladeshi passport holder is asked for one, and it is the source of most of the search volume.
An immigration authority processing a long-stay, residence or settlement application. Living somewhere is a different assessment from visiting it, and character checks belong to the first.
Occasionally, a specific institution: a university, a professional body, an adoption or fostering process, a licensing authority.
None of those three is tourism. So when you find a page saying a PCC is required, look at which of the three it is talking about, because they are not interchangeable.
Why tourist visas generally do not ask for one
A short visit is assessed on different things. The decision maker on a tourist application is generally looking at whether you are a genuine visitor, whether your trip is funded and planned, and whether you are likely to leave. A criminal record check is a tool for a longer relationship with a country than a two-week holiday.
This site explains what decision makers assess and stops there. It does not tell you how to satisfy any of it, because coaching an application is what agencies sell and it cannot be sourced.
And the requirement is the destination’s to set. So the useful instruction is short: read the document list published by the mission you are applying to, for the visa category you are applying for, and treat any other list as unreliable.
The categories where you should expect to be asked
Long-stay and residence visas in most systems.
Work visas and employment-based routes, and separately the Bangladeshi side of an overseas employment process, which has its own requirements independent of the destination’s.
Student visas in some systems and not others, which is a country-by-country question rather than a general rule.
Settlement, permanent residence and citizenship applications.
Some visa categories that involve working with children or in regulated professions.
What varies, and why we are not giving you a list
Which police authority issues it, what it is called, what it covers and how long it is treated as current all differ, and they differ both between destination countries and over time.
Some systems want a certificate from every country you have lived in beyond a stated period. Some want it authenticated or legalized. Some treat one older than a stated age as expired. Every one of those is a rule set by the requesting authority rather than by Bangladesh, and reading it from their page is the only reliable route.
We publish no fee and no processing time. That is a statement about our retrieval, not about the publishers, and the issuing authority’s own page is the place to read the current position.
The practical ordering point nobody makes
If your process needs one, get it early, and get it before you surrender your passport for anything else.
Applications frequently want the passport, and applications frequently want the certificate. A process that requires both, sequentially, is a process whose total time is the sum rather than the maximum, and people plan for the wrong one.
And check the validity window. A certificate obtained too early can be treated as expired by the time the application is decided, which means paying for it twice.
If you are planning a holiday and somebody told you that you need one
Check the mission’s own published document list first. It is one page and it settles it.
If it is not on that list, you do not need it for that application, and anyone telling you otherwise is worth asking why.
